Charity Stotmeister drives vs. Stout

UW-Platteville hosted UW-Stout Saturday afternoon at Bo Ryan Court. UW-Stout came out with the victory after a hard-fought battle, 69-61.

The Pioneers did not lead at all in the first half with the smallest margin three and the largest margin at 10 for the halftime score, 36-26.

The second half was a different story for the Pioneers. Megan Guernsey came out with a spectacular performance. With only two points in the first half, Guernsey scored 15 in the second to help the Pioneers get back into the game.

The Pioneers went on a 14-2 run to take their first lead of the game at 57-56 off of a Charity Stotmeister layup with about 4:30 to play. Julia Hirssig answered Stotmeister's layup but Stotmeister put the Pioneers back up by one sinking two free throws. With UWP ahead 59-58, Hirssig scored on a layup with 3:40 to play and another inside basket with 1:11 left for a 63-59 lead.

The Pioneers were forced to foul the last minute of the game putting the Blue Devils on the line. They made seven of eight free-throws to end the game, 69-61.

Guernsey led the Pioneers with 17 points and seven rebounds. Lisa Wubben had 12 points and eight rebounds for the Pionners.

The Blue Devils were led by Hirssig with 21 points. Joanna Bird had 12 points, Lindsey Geissler had 11 points, and Dani Boese scored 10 for the Blue Devils.

UW-Platteville falls to 9-9 overall and 3-6 in the WIAC. UW-Stout is 12-6 overall and 6-3 in the WIAC.
