UW-Stout overcame a seven-point second-half deficit to stop UW-Platteville's four-game winning streak, 80-68 Saturday in Menomonie.

The upstart Pioneers, picked for eighth in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, had the defending conference champions on the ropes by taking a 64-57 lead on Angie Vamstad's three-point basket with 7:56 to play.

The Blue Devils battled back, tying the score at 65-65 on two Lindsay Geissler free throws with 4:49 to play. Two more free throws by Mary Schaeffer with 3:59 remaining gave Stout the lead for good at 68-66. The 12-point final margin was the largest lead of the game after the Pioneers were forced to foul in the final minutes to stop the clock.

UW-Stout improved to 9-4 overall and 3-1 in the WIAC, while the Pioneers fell to 8-5, 2-2.

Lisa Grantman had 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Pioneers, while Megan Guernsey and Dru Schneider each had nine. Julia Hirrsig led Stout with 17 points and 11 rebounds, with 15 points coming in the second half.
