UWP Basketball March 6, 2008

UW-Platteville's Brianna Klaas was named to the inaugural Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference basketball all-sportsmanship team.

Klaas, a sophomore from Lancaster, missed the entire 2007-08 season while she battled cancer. Despite rounds of chemotherapy and doctors' appointments, Klaas became the inspirational leader of the Pioneers. She attended as many practices and games as her treatments allowed and always delivered a positive message.

Klaas also was at the forefront of the Shoot A Three for Bri Campaign, which raised money for the Grant County Cancer Coalition. Supporters pledged money for every three-point basket the Pioneers made, and when the team responded with a school-record 161, more than $5,600 was raised.

"Bri is very deserving of the Sportsmanship award with the season she’s been through," Coach Tina Kuhle said. "She is a young lady with a lot of character and integrity and someone who represented our UW-Platteville community better then anyone."
