UW-Platteville's Lisa Wubben earned first team all-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference basketball honors and also became the first Pioneer since 1995 to earn all-defensive team honors.
Wubben, a senior from Kieler (Southwestern High School), ranked in the top four in eight of the 12 statistical categories the league tracks. She was second in scoring at 15 points per game and assists at 3.23 per contest on the offensive end. Her 86.3 percent free throw shooting not only ranked second in the conference but also set a new Pioneer season record, breaking Krista Wolf's 84.0 mark that had stood since 1981-82. She is the new career free-throw leader as well, establishing a record of 77.6 percent (242-312).
Defensively, Wubben was second in steals at 2.35 per game and third in rebounds, averaging 7.4 per outing.
Playing one of the finest games ever by a Pioneer, Wubben recorded the first and only "triple double" in school history when she had 23 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists in a 94-92 victory at Madison Edgewood Dec. 29.
"Lisa developed over the years into one of the best players to ever wear a Pioneer uniform," Coach Tina Kuhle said. "Her leadership both on and off the court is something we will truly miss. She represented the Pioneer women’s basketball team and the UW-Platteville community as well as any player we’ve ever had! She is very deserving of the all-conference award and all-defensive award."
Wubben, who missed the 2005-06 season with an injury, has another season of eligibility but she will graduate in May with a business administration major.
Casey Scheckel was the last Pioneer honored for her defensive work, back in the 1994-95 season.
