Titans pull away from Pioneers

UW-Oshkosh pulled away late from visiting UW-Platteville to record a 61-49 women's basketball victory Wednesday in the Kolf Sports Center.

The Titans used a 7-0 run with under eight minutes to play, turning a 48-43 lead into a 55-43 advantage. Arin Lane had two baskets, and Kayla Sharpee scored three points in the spurt that broke the game open. It marked the first time that either team held a double-digit advantage.

The Pioneers led by as many as seven points at 16-9 in the first half, although the Titans rallied for a 28-27 halftime advantage. UWP's last lead was at 35-34 on Liz Tesch's basket four minutes into the second half.

UW-Oshkosh improved to 6-5 overall and 2-2 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while the Pioneers fell to 7-6, 1-3.

A trio of Pioneers accounted for 39 of their 49 points. Lisa Grantman led UWP with 15 points, while Tesch and Lisa Wubben each had 12. Grantman added nine points and three assists, while Liz Wisdom blocked three shots.

Whitney Tyriver scored 17 points for the Titans, while Lane and Becky Knapp each scored 16.

The Pioneers play at Williams Fieldhouse Saturday vs. UW-Superior at 3 p.m. or 30 minutes after the conclusion of the men's game. One ticket is good for both contests.
