Pioneers beat Eagles, 79-50

UW-Platteville held visiting Edgewood to one field goal over the first 10-plus minutes of the second half, enabling the Pioneers to beat the Eagles 79-50 Wednesday night in Williams Fieldhouse.

The Pioneers led 34-24 at the half, then broke the game open with a 22-6 run to begin the second half for a 56-30 advantage. UWP maintained at least a 20-point lead the remainder of the contest.

Five Pioneers scored in double figures, with Lisa Grantman and Lisa Wubben getting 13 apiece, Liz Wisdom 12 and Liz Tesch and Kendra Gohr 11 each. Gohr, a senior coming back from a 2005-06 knee injury, scored her career high.

Jordane Kittoe scored 16 points, while Megan Scheele had 12 and Nickie Updike 10 for the Eagles, who had 26 points from the field and 24 from the line. Edgewood was limited to 5-25 from the field in the second period (20 percent) and 28.9 percent for the game.

The Pioneers did not allow an Edgewood offensive rebound for the first 25 minutes of the game, as the Pioneers scored 14 second-chance points to the Eagles' five. Wisdom and Wubben each grabbed nine rebounds for UWP, who held a 41-24 advantage on the boards.

The Pioneers improved to 6-4 overall, while the Eagles fell to 5-5. UW-Platteville is back in action Saturday vs. Trinity International in Deerfield, Ill. at 3 p.m.
