Bemidji State, an NCAA Division II school, beat NCAA Division III UW-Platteville 90-51 Thursday night in Bemidji, Minn.
The Beavers improved to 6-5, which includes a victory over DII #24 Wayne State, while the Pioneers fell to 7-5 after the 500-mile trip. This was the first time Bemidji State faced a DIII team this season and also the Pioneers' only matchup with a DII school.
Freshman Liz Wisdom was the Pioneers' brightest performer, scoring 22 points on 11-15 shooting and grabbing 12 rebounds. Liz Tesch added 8 points, while Lisa Grantman recorded 5 assists.
Heidi Matzki had 15 points, Colleen Boel 14 and Karlee Simonson 11 for the Beavers, who made 50 percent from the field, including 11-20 (55 percent) from beyond the three-point line.
UWP was within 14-11 before the Beavers scored 10 straight points to take control. BSU led 50-24 at the half, and the Pioneers were only able to come as close as 21 in the second half. The final score was the largest margin of the game.
The Pioneers return to action, and WIAC play, Wednesday at UW-Oshkosh at 7 p.m. Their next home game is Saturday, Jan. 6 vs. UW-Superior at 3 p.m. or 30 minutes after the conclusion of the men's game. One ticket is good for both games in Williams Fieldhouse.
