The UW-Platteville women's basketball team will play at Ripon College for the first time since 1989 to begin a challenging 2006-07 schedule, announced today by Pioneer Coach Tina Kuhle.
While the Pioneers' first trip to Ripon in 17 years will be something different, the other two opponents in the Red Hawks' tournament are quite familiar. Nearby Clarke College and Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference member UW-Superior join the Pioneers in the Nov. 17-18 tournament.
The Pioneers play both Dubuque and Loras at the Mississippi River Challenge, held at Clarke over Thanksgiving weekend, as well as non-conference games at Augustana, Millikin, Trinity International and NCAA Division II Bemidji State.
Only one home non-conference game is on the schedule, a Dec. 13 matchup with Edgewood College. The home opener is also the WIAC opener, Dec. 2 vs. UW-Stout.
"We are very excited about the upcoming 2006-2007 basketball schedule," Kuhle said. "We are playing some teams that we've haven't played before. We are looking forward to traveling to Ripon for their opening weekend tournament as well as back to Dubuque to play in the Mississippi River Challenge. We will also be traveling for tough non-conference games this season which will be a good challenge for our team in preparing us for the WIAC conference."
