University of Wisconsin-Platteville senior forward Matt Weik was named the WIAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Tuesday. The Freeport, Illinois native had back-to-back career-high performances during the week, scoring 13 and 30 points, respectively in wins over North Central College (Ill.) and UW-Oshkosh.
In averaging 21.5 points per game, he also made 73.9 percent (17 for 23) of his shots from the field, including a 50 percent (3-for-6) effort from the 3-point line. In addition to being the Pioneers’ top scorer, he was second on the team with 5.5 rebounds.
Next, Weik and the UW-Platteville men's basketball team will step out of the rigors of the WIAC for its next two games when they travel to Otterbein University for the Smokey Ballenger Tournament in Westerville, Ohio. The Pioneers will face the host Cardinals on Dec. 28 at 7 p.m.
