Shane Kieler is transfering from NCAA Division II Augustana College (S.D.) and will play basketball at UW-Platteville, Pioneer Coach Jeff Gard announced.

UWP BasketballKieler, a 6-3 guard, played in 29 games over the past two seasons for the Vikings. He was a prolific prep player at Monona Grove High School, leading the Silver Eagles to the state championship game in 2006. He was a two-time all-conference player who set MG records for career three-point accuracy (78-156, 50 percent) and single-season free-throw shooting (90 percent in 2004-05).

Kieler was co-captain of the 2005-06 squad--along with current Pioneer baseball player Derrick Rice--that finished 20-7 and state runner-up.

He red-shirted his first year at Augustana and will have two years of eligibility at UW-Platteville, although he may graduate in May with accounting and business majors.

Kieler will add another sharp-shooter to the Pioneer lineup that already includes three regulars who made better than 40 percent of their three-point shots in 2008-09. Mike Shaw (42.6 percent), Nick Allen (41.5), and Curt Hanson (40.6) helped the Pioneers to a 23-6 record and into the second round of the NCAA III playoffs last year.
