Annawan (Ill.) all-time leading scorer Tanner Carlson will attend UW-Platteville and play basketball for the Pioneers, UWP Coach Paul Combs announced.

Carlson, a 6-0 guard, earned Associated Press second team all-state honors and third team by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association after averaging 20.6 points, 6.3 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 4.3 steals per game as a senior for the conference co-championship team. He was a three-time IBCA all-state pick and all-Lincoln Trail Conference selection, scoring 22.4 ppg as a sophomore and 22.2 as a junior. Carlson is Annawan's all-time leading scorer with 2,045 points, including a single-season record 649 as a sophomore. He also was a state medalist in the 400-meter dash. The son of Vern and Debbie Carlson, he plans to major in physical education.

He will join a Pioneer team coming off a 19-7 record and second place in the tough Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a 12-4 mark. The Pioneers, with only one senior on the squad, were ranked 23rd nationally by D3hoops.com. UWP plays its home games on the Bo Ryan Court, named after the coach who led the Pioneers to NCAA Division III national championships in 1991, 1995, 1998 and 1999 and who just led the Wisconsin Badgers to the Big Ten championship.
