East Troy's 6-8 center Alex Bondar will attend UW-Platteville and play basketball for the Pioneers, UWP Coach Paul Combs announced.
Bondar earned first team Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Division 2 All-State honors after averaging 13.9 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. He was the Southern Lakes Conference co-Player of the Year after helping East Troy to a 21-3 overall record and a berth in the sectional finals. Bondar led his team in rebounding all four years and in scoring twice. He was also an all-conference football lineman. Bondar will play in the WBCA All-Star Game in Madison in June. The honor roll student is the son of Andrew and Carolyn Bondar and plans a mechanical engineering major.
He will join a Pioneer team coming off a 19-7 record and second place in the tough Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a 12-4 mark. The Pioneers, with only one senior on the squad, were ranked 23rd nationally by D3hoops.com. UWP plays its home games on the Bo Ryan Court, named after the coach who led the Pioneers to NCAA Division III national championships in 1991, 1995, 1998 and 1999 and who just led the Wisconsin Badgers to the Big Ten championship.
