Jeff Skempscored 24 points against the Warhawks

UW-Platteville's Jeff Skemp earned the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference basketball player of the week award for the second time this season.

Skemp, a 6-10 senior center from Hazel Green (Southwestern High School), led the Pioneers to a 2-0 record last week.

In a battle of top-7 nationally ranked teams, Skemp scored 24 points to lead #5 UW-Platteville past #7 UW-Whitewater 86-78 Wednesday. Skemp made 10-14 from the field and 4-4 from the the line for his 24 points. He also had three rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots in 32 minutes. On Saturday, he gave the Pioneers the lead for good with a free throw with 1:01 to play in a 55-51 win at UW-Stout. He was fouled grabbing an offensive rebound. Skemp finished with 15 points, making 9-11 from the line, grabbed seven rebounds, made two blocks, and had three steals.

The all-American moved into 13th place all-time on the Pioneer scoring charts Saturday with 1,262 points. Skemp trails Royce Reeves (1952-56) by 12 points for 12th place.

The Pioneers play at UW-Oshkosh Wednesday at 7 p.m. and then play host to UW-River Falls Saturday at 1 p.m.
