| Skemp is the seventh UWP All-American |
UW-Platteville's Jeff Skemp earned third team all-American honors by both D3hoops.com and the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
Skemp led the Pioneers with 15.2 points and 8.3 rebounds per game while setting a new Pioneer record by making 64.7 percent of his shots from the field, breaking the former mark of 62.5, set by Rob Jeter, now UW-Milwaukee's head coach. He ranked third nationally in field-goal percentage. Skemp had nine "double-doubles"--scoring at least 10 points and grabbing at least 10 rebounds in the same contest--nine times this season, giving him 13 for his career.
The 6-10 junior center from Hazel Green (Southwestern) becomes the seventh player in the Pioneers' illustrious history to earn all-America honors. He joins Steve Showalter (1988 NAIA Third Team), Shawn Frison (1990 NAIA Honorable Mention), T.J. Van Wie (1992 NCAA First Team, 1993 NCAA Second Team), Ernie Peavy (1995 NCAA Second Team), Ben Hoffmann (1997 NCAA Second Team, 1998 NCAA First Team) and Merrill Brunson (1999 NCAA First Team, Player of the Year).
Skemp led the Pioneers to a 19-7 record, including 12-4 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. UWP loses just one senior from that squad and returns 99.8 percent of its scoring.
