Freeport's Matt Weik will attend UW-Platteville and play basketball for the Pioneers, UWP Coach Paul Combs announced.
Weik, a 6-5 forward, averaged 8 points and 7 rebounds per game during a senior season that was marred by a broken leg. He helped the Pretzels to a 25-4 record as a junior, turning in a pair of 15-point, 10-rebound games.
The son of Jim and Roxi Weik, he plans to major in ornamental horticulture. He was a NIC-9 Scholar-Athlete and on the honor roll throughout his high school days.
He will join a Pioneer team that is coming off an injury-plagued 13-12 season. The Pioneers were 6-1 and ranked 13th in the nation before a rash of injuries altered a promising year. UW-Platteville should have a fully-recovered squad to begin play on the Bo Ryan Court in 2007-08.
