Darlington native comes from MATC

Darlington native Scott Gibbons will attend UW-Platteville and play basketball for the Pioneers, UWP Coach Paul Combs announced.

The 6-foot-8 Gibbons played two years at Madison Area Technical College, earning all-conference and all-state honors. He averaged 8.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and had 30 blocks for the Wolfpack.

At Darlington, he broke the Redbirds' career record for blocked shots and earned first team all-conference honors. He averaged 11 points and nine rebounds per contest while leading the Redbirds to a 16-6 mark and a league title. Gibbons was also a first-team all-conference receiver and defensive back, grabbing four touchdowns and making four interceptions while helping Darlington to an 11-1 record.

He is the son of Gerald and Sheila Gibbons and plans to major in physical education. Gibbons will have two years of eligibility for the Pioneers.

He joins a Pioneer team that is coming off an injury-plagued 13-12 season. The Pioneers were 6-1 and ranked 13th in the nation before a rash of injuries altered a promising year. UW-Platteville should have a fully-recovered squad to begin play on the Bo Ryan Court in 2007-08.

He will join other announced Pioneer recruits: Barneveld's Nick Allen, Burlington Catholic Central's John Henney, and Monona Grove's Alex Zwart.
