Henney commits to UW-Platteville

Burlington Catholic Central forward John Henney will attend UW-Platteville and play basketball for the Pioneers, UWP Coach Paul Combs announced.

Henney, 6-foot-7 and 235 pounds, averaged 20.7 points and 9.7 rebounds per game for the Hilltoppers, earning WBCA Division 4 all-state first team honors. He also was an AP honorable mention all-state selection and a first-team all-conference player. As a junior, he helped Catholic Central win the WIAA Division 4 state championship.

"John comes from a championship program," Combs said. "Our staff feels very strongly in his ability to play inside and step out to play on the perimeter. With the graduation of Mark Gossens, John will fill an immediate need. He comes from a great family, is a solid student and will be an excellent teammate."

He is the son of Richard and Maureen Henney and plans to major in civil engineering.

Henney will join a Pioneer team that is coming off an injury-plagued 13-12 season. The Pioneers were 6-1 and ranked 13th in the nation before a rash of injuries altered a promising year. UW-Platteville should have a fully-recovered squad to begin play on the Bo Ryan Court in 2007-08.

He will join another Pioneer recruit, Barneveld's Nick Allen, in the WBCA All-Star Games June 23 at the UW Fieldhouse. They will play for the Division 4 South squad.
