UW-Whitewater edged visiting UW-Platteville 6-5 in 12 innings in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference baseball battle Wednesday.

The second game was suspended because of darkness in the top of ninth inning with the 24th-ranked Warhawks leading 7-5. That game was finished April 29, prior to the two teams' scheduled 1 p.m. doubleheader. The Warhawks held on to win that game by the 7-5 score.

Ben Kuhlman singled with the bases loaded and no outs for the game-winner in the 12th for UWW, who improved to 19-9 overall and 11-6.

The Pioneers (16-15, 8-9) tied the contest in the ninth on Jason Jacobson's one-out home run.

Shawn Tobie had a three-run double in the sixth, giving the Pioneers a 4-3 advantage. The Warhawks tied the score in the bottom of the sixth on a groundout, then re-took the advantage on a fielder's choice in the 8th. Jacobson's blast then tied the score, sending the contest into extra innings.

Joe Cox pitched the first 5.1 innings for the Pioneers, yielding four hits and four runs, while Joe Lange when the rest of the way, three hits and two runs. Aaron Dott picked up the win in relief for UWW, throwing the final 3.2 frames.

UWP plays non-conference games at Edgewood Thursday and at Coe Sunday before returning to Whitewater next Wednesday.
