Platteville probably never looked so good to the UWP baseball team.

The Pioneers return home Friday night after dropping three games in Alabama and Georgia to conclude their southern trip. UW-Platteville fell 17-5 to Huntington (Ala.) and 18-1 to La Grange, Ga. Thursday and 7-5 to 10th-ranked Piedmont, Ga.

UWP went 5-6 on its trip, winning five of eight in the St. Louis area before their southern-most games.

Piedmont, 10th in the latest D3Baseball.com poll, improved to 20-4 with Friday's win. The Lions used a six-run second inning, and a 9-for-9 stolen-base effort, for the win.

Ross Bennett, Lee Hawkins and Derrick Rice each had two hits for the Pioneers. Joe Lange pitched six scoreless innings of relief for UWP.

The Pioneers are scheduled to play at NCAA Division I Northern Iowa Wednesday then open WIAC and home seasons Saturday and Sunday vs. UW-Stout at noon each day. Because of the uncertainty of this spring's weather, check the web site frequently for updates on schedules.
