Posted April 1, 2008
UW-Platteville's Mike Flood earned the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference baseball player of the week award.
Flood led UW-Platteville to a 4-1 mark, including a 9-4 win over NCAA Division I foe Northern Iowa and three of four victories over UW-Stout. He hit .375, scored six times and drove in 10 runs. Flood delivered a home run against UW-Stout in Saturday's first game, then drilled the game-winning double with two outs in the bottom of the ninth in the nightcap. For the week, Flood had at least one RBI in each game and drew three walks and was hit by four pitches, giving him an on-base percentage of .542.
The Pioneers were the only team to defeat Northern Iowa in the last 10 games, a task Ohio State and Northwestern tried and failed.
UW-Platteville, 9-7 overall, leads the WIAC along with UW-Oshkosh at 3-1. The Pioneers play four games at UW-La Crosse Saturday and Sunday.
