Pioneers sweep Yellowjackets

UW-Platteville earned its first conference doubleheader sweep of the season, beating UW-Superior 7-6 and 3-1 Saturday in Superior.

Mike Kuhn belted a three-run double in the third, and Ross Bennett cracked a three-run home run in the fifth inning to lead UWP in game one. Kyle Mack pitched the first six innings for his fourth victory, while Jay Lindner ended the game with two on base for the save.

Joe Lange threw six innings of shutout ball in the nightcap, exiting with a 5-0 lead. Jacob Bandy had a two-run double in the Pioneer fifth, while Jared Haxton had three hits. Bennett, Bandy, Scott Dybevik and Matt Paulus each had two hits. Ryan Leer had six hits on the day, including four in the second game for Superior (7-23 overall, 1-17 in WIAC).

The Pioneers (13-18-2, 5-11-2) play at UW-Superior twice again on Sunday.
