UW-Platteville beat regionally ranked Edgewood College 11-7 Tuesday afternoon in Verona.
The Eagles, ranked eighth in the American Baseball Coaches Association NCAA III Central Region poll, dropped to 15-8 while the Pioneers improved to 8-12-1.
UWP overcame an early 2-1 deficit by scoring single runs in innings four, five and six and then five runs in the seventh. The seventh inning featured just one hit--a two-run single by Jacob Bandy--three walks, an error, a hit batsman and a pair of wild pitches.
Ross Bennett drilled his sixth home run of the year, a solo shot in the fifth, giving the Pioneers the lead for good at 4-3. Mike Kuhn, Jerod Haxton and Wade Axelson drove in runs with hits during the course of the game.
Manager Eric Frese gave five pitchers work during the non-conference game, with no one throwing more than two innings. Freshman Wil Osmanski picked up his first collegiate win, pitching perfect fifth and sixth innings with two strikeouts.
The Pioneers play at UW-La Crosse Wednesday in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader, beginning at 1 p.m.
Frese also announced Tuesday that the twice-moved Knox College doubleheader will be played in Galesburg, Ill. on Tuesday, April 24 at 2 p.m.
