Bennett, Dybevik earn honors

UW-Platteville's Ross Bennett and Scott Dybevik, who helped re-write the Pioneer baseball record book, earned Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors.

Bennett, a junior first baseman from Mequon (Homestead), earned his second straight first team selection, while Dybevik, a senior outfielder from Madison (LaFollette), was an honorable mention selection.

With one year to go, Bennett already holds UW-Platteville career records for hits (149), runs (114), RBIs (112), home runs (23) and total bases (265). He had 17 multi-hit games and hit safely in 30 of the 40 games played in 2007. He hit .357 this season with 13 doubles, nine home runs, and 37 RBIs, ranking in the top 10 in nearly every WIAC statistical category. He was an all-Midwest Region selection last spring and a preseason all-America pick by D3baseball.com this year.

Dybevik, the team's lone senior, hit .306 with 10 doubles, five home runs and 24 RBIs. He set a school record with 11 total bases in a 19-12 win over UW-Whitewater, belting two of the team's five home runs that game. He is just one of seven Pioneers to have 400 at-bats in a career. He hit .477 (31-65) over his final 16 games in the orange and blue.

The Pioneers finished 15-23-2 under first-year coach Eric Frese and played on the new Kendall Murray Field facility for the first time this year.
