Pepper signs with Michigan team

Former UW-Platteville baseball player Nick Pepper signed a contract with the Traverse City Beach Bums of the independent Frontier League.

Pepper will pitch for the Beach Bums, whose roster is loaded with former NCAA Division I and Minor League Baseball players who were high draft choices.

An all-conference shortstop his first two years at UW-Platteville, Pepper went through an injury-plagued junior season then learned to pitch sidearm as a senior. He averaged better than a strikeout per inning as a submarine relief specialist in 2006. The Sterling, Ill. native pitched in a Florida academy during the 2006-07 season, attracting the attention of pro scouts.

Pepper also earned fame during his Pioneer career as being the only player in school history to play all nine positions in a single game, vs. Rockford in 2006.

The Beach Bums play in the unique Wuerful Park, whose upper decks resemble beach houses.
