| Ross Bennett hit .522 during the week |
UW-Platteville's Ross Bennett earned the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference baseball player of the week award.
In seven games, Bennett hit .522 with 11 runs scored, four doubles, a triple and two home runs while batting in 11 runs. He also walked four times and was hit by six pitches for an on-base percentage of .647. Bennett, who had a slugging percentage of 1.043, helped the Pioneers beat regionally ranked Edgewood, split with UW-La Crosse and go 1-2-1 with UW-Whitewater. His three-run home run Saturday brought the Pioneers within 9-8 of the Warhawks in a game they would go on to win 19-12, and his solo shot Tuesday gave UWP the lead for good at 4-3 vs. Edgewood.
Bennett, a junior from Mequon (Homestead High School), is already the Pioneers' career home run leader with 21. He has knocked seven out of the park this spring.
The Pioneers play at Knox today (Tuesday) at 2 p.m. then are scheduled to host UW-La Crosse Wednesday at 1 p.m.

Baseball notes: The Pioneers' scheduled doubleheader at Rockford on May 1 has now been changed to a single-game at 6:30 p.m. to allow the student-athletes to attend classes that day before leaving campus ... Sunday's rain-shortened 6-6 tie with UW-Whitewater was the first recorded conference game that ended in a tie, according to complete WIAC records that date back to 1967.
