Flood's home runs key Pioneer win

The UW-Platteville baseball team opened the Flood-gates on Rockford College Saturday.

Mike Flood Mike Flood hit a solo home run in the fifth and a three-run shot in the third to lift the Pioneers to a 7-2 victory over Rockford College at Westminster College in Fulton, Mo. Westminster beat the Pioneers 11-8 in Saturday's first game.

Flood's two home runs helped the Pioneers to a 2-2 start on this young season. He also helped freshman hurler Bill Buluga earn his second pitching win. Bulaga threw 5 and one-third innings and was aided by errorless ball.

The Pioneers committed four errors and yielded seven walks and a hit batsman in their opening loss to Westminster. Nick Pepper pounded out four hits, while Matt Huckstep and Ross Bennett each had three in the 14-hit UWP attack. Nick Aplin had two hits in each of Saturday's games.

The sub-varsity squad will play at Westminster Sunday before the Pioneers return home.

The Pioneers return to Missouri during spring break to play in the Mutt Miller Classic March 13-15 in Joplin.
