A six-run fourth inning propelled UW-Platteville to a 10-7 baseball victory over Loras College Tuesday night at Dubuque's Petrakis Field.
Ross Bennett hit a two-run double, becoming the first Pioneer ever to surpass 100 total bases in a season, while Mike Flood, Gabe Neitzel, Alex Siehoff and Mike Luchterhand knocked in runs during the fourth-inning explosion.
Mike Watson added an RBI single in the seventh, and Matt Huckstep blasted a home run in the ninth to put the game away.
After allowing three runs in the first inning, Ryan Slaght cruised through frames two through seven with just one more run. The senior improved to 4-2 on the year. Nick Pepper pitched a scoreless eighth, and Kyle Brudos escaped a jam in the ninth after Loras scored three.
Brandon Ihm's two-run double cut Loras's lead to 3-2 by the second inning. His was one of four doubles on the day. Huckstep added a single and triple to his home run, giving him three hits for the night.
The Pioneers improved to 16-18, while Loras fell to 13-19-1.
Games at Division I Western Illinois are now on tap for the Pioneers, who play in Macomb Wednesday and Thursday. Both game times are at 3:30 p.m. The final games of the season are vs. Rockford College Saturday at the University of Dubuque, beginning at noon.
