Playing its first match in eight days, the UW-Platteville volleyball team could not shake off the rust and lost in three quick sets at UW-La Crosse Wednesday night.

The Eagles beat the Pioneers 25-17, 25-18, 25-15 in 58 minutes in Mitchell Hall. UW-La Crosse, led by Brianne Stankus and Nina Walch with eight kills apiece, improved to 19-7 overall and 4-2 in the WIAC.

The Pioneers, now 12-12, 2-3 were led by Lisa Bell with seven kills and Rachel Chapman with five kills and 16 digs.

Both teams wore pink for another of the WIAC's Dig for the Cure nights to raise awareness of breast cancer. Last Wednesday, the Pioneers raised more than $1,100 in their home match.

UWP returns to action with a two-game WIAC road swing, playing at UW-Stout Friday at 7 p.m. and at UW-River Falls Saturday at noon.
