Scott Howard, Corey Digman, and Andy Melby won individual titles, leading the UW-Platteville men's track and field team to the title at the Wash. U. Mini-Meet Friday in St. Louis.

The Pioneers scored 154.5 points, finishing 13.5 points ahead of runner-up UW-Stevens Point in the seven-school event. The UWP women were fourth in their meet by one-half point, won by host Wash. U. Wheaton was third with 103.5, and the Pioneers scored 103.

Scott Howard and Jon Balciar both went 14-9.25 in the pole vault, but Howard won based on fewer attempts. Tony Fontanini was third in the event.

Digman and Jordan Shull also went 1-2 in their event, the discus throw. Digman won with a toss of 147-11, while Shull had 139-7.

Melby captured the 110 hurdles in 14.95, winning by five-hundredths of a second.

Besides Balciar and Shull, Pioneers placing second during the first outdoor meet of the season were Mike Schmidt in the high jump at 6-1.5, Dan Meyer in the weight throw (162-6.75), Nathan Petesch in the 5,000-meter run (15:12.41); and Ann Tank in the 400-meter run (58.89).

UW-Platteville competes at Wartburg next Saturday.
