UW-Platteville's Corey Digman won both the shot put and weight throw, leading the Pioneers at the Wartburg Select Invitational Saturday in Waverly, Iowa.

Digman took two of the five first-place finishes for the Pioneers in the five-school meet. UW-La Crosse, St Thomas, Buena Vista and UWP joined the host Knights in the high-powered meet. Digman won the weight throw with a NCAA III national championship provisional toss of 57-10.5, then captured the shot put in 50-4.5.

Scott Howard, Tony Fontanani, and Jon Balciar went 1-2-3 in the pole vault after all cleared 14-5.25, but Howard won the competition based on fewer attempts.

Shane Lacy won the 800-meter run in 1:57.87, while Alli Tank was the lone female winner, taking the 5,000 run in 19:16.48.

The competition level remains high for the Pioneers Saturday, as they are hosts for the nine-team Nike/Impact Sports UW-Platteville Invitational at 10 a.m. UW-Stevens Point, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Eau Claire, Wartburg, Dubuque, Loras, Simpson, and Coe will join the Pioneers in what shapes up to be one of the best indoor meets in the Midwest.

Saturday will be a UWP Sports Spectacular, as one $8 ticket will admit fans to not only the track meet but the Pioneers' basketball games vs. UW-Superior. Three of the four Pioneer teams competing that day are ranked in the top 25 nationally, led by the men's basketball team at fourth. The men play at 1 p.m., and the women begin at 3 p.m.
