Jessica Scott placed third in the 800-meter run and anchored the 4x400 relay team that broke a UW-Platteville record at the NCAA III national championships Saturday in Marietta, Ohio.

Scott completed the 800-meter run in 2:09.83 to place third and earn yet more all-America honors. St. Norbert's Ashley Graybill won the race in 2:09.18.

Scott then teamed with Liz Baker, Alison (Ross) Glendenning and Ann Tank to finish seventh in the 1,600-meter relay in a UWP-record time of 3:50.05. The Pioneer quartet set the school record Thursday during preliminaries then earned all-America honors with their sizzling performance Saturday. Top-seeded Wartburg won the 4x400 in 3:43.48, clinching not only the race but the national championship. The Knights scored 52 points, finishing ahead of WIAC schools UW-Oshkosh (50 points), UW-La Crosse (48) and UW-Eau Claire (34.5). The Pioneers were 33rd nationally under Coach Jim Nickasch.

The senior from Kiel finished her standout career with her eighth NCAA III All-America honor in track and field. The same Pioneer foursome also earned all-America honors in the indoor meet by finishing sixth. Scott was fifth in last year's NCAA III outdoor 800.

UW-Oshkosh won the men's team title. Pioneers Corey Digman (discus) and Andy Melby (110-meter hurdles) each competed Friday but did not finish in the top eight to earn all-America honors or score team points. The men's 4x100 team of Alex Switzky, Mitch Spees, Matt Bischoff, and Lynn Oyawiri also competed at the national championships, while Tank (800) and Glendenning (400 hurdles) qualified individually as well.
