UW-Platteville placed second in six different events, as the Pioneers turned in a solid showing against a strong field at the Nike/Impact Sports UW-Platteville Invitational Saturday.
UW-Eau Claire, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Stevens Point, Wartburg, Coe, Dubuque and Loras joined UW-Platteville at the Pioneer Activity Center for this mid-season high-powered meet. No team scores were kept in the competition, which also featured some top-flight unattached athletes.
The 17th-ranked Pioneer men had five funner-up finishes, three in running events and two in field competitions. They were: Matt Bischoff, 200 in 22.8; Nate Petesch, 5,000 in15:04.93; Andrew Melby, 55 hurdles in 7.92; Jon Balciar, pole vault in 15-7; and Corey Digman, weight throw in 56-6.5.
Cassie Schneider led the women with a long jump of 16-6 to place second.
Placing third were:
