
UW-Platteville senior Cam Klein ran a personal-best 9:11.13 to place eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and capture all-America honors at the NCAA Division III track and field championships Friday at UW-Oshkosh.
Klein, from Monroe, topped his previous best of 9:15.62 set the previous week to qualify for nationals. Peter Koskei of Hamilton College ran 8:55.19 to win the national championship.
Klein's finish pushed the Pioneers' team total to 13 points, good for third place after two days. The meet concludes Saturday, with four Pioneers still competing.
Marcia Taddy and Jess Scott went 1-2 in the second heat of the 800-meter trials Friday and both will advance to Saturday's championship. Taddy finished in 2:11.12, just ahead of Scott's 2:11.17.
Taddy will also compete in the 1,500-meter run finals, and Kyle Stangel will be in the men's 1,500. Tyler Sigl, who won the 10,000-meter championship Thursday night, will compete in the 5K run Saturday night.
Ben Zizis finished 11th in the 110-meter hurdles preliminaries Friday, missing the opportunity to advance to finals by just two places.
Scott Howard earned all-America honors Thursday by finishing seventh in the pole vault at 15-5.
