Posted May 12, 2009
Following its first-ever NCAA III tournament appearance--and playoff victory--the UW-Platteville men's soccer team added an outstanding recruiting class to complement a very solid returning group.
The Pioneers were 14-5-1, including a 1-0 victory over Wartburg in the national championship race, under Coach Enzo Fuschino.
The coach offers his assessment of the newcomers:
- Tate Weber: A 1st team All-Conference and team MVP from Racine Case High School, Tate is a quick and very smart defender. He has a vey good technical base combined to an excellent tactical awareness. Can play anywhere in the back line.
- Nolan Lacy: Nolan is a solid and consistent 1st team All-Conference from Verona High Schoo (where he was the defensive MVP for the last two years). A very strong and diligent 1-on-1 defender, Nolan can play very simple and still mantain a high level of effectiveness.
- Cole Aschenbrenner: Cole is a strong midfielder with a great sense of position and anticipation, and an excellent ability to win balls out of the air. He was a 1st team All-Conference and All-Area from Milton High School.
- Luke Novak: Another 1st All-Conference player from Milton High Schoo, Luke is a tremendous athlete. He combines strength and athleticism with a solid technical and tactical foundation. He can be effective either as a midfielder or defender.
- Jeremy Bethke: From Greyslake (Ill.) Central High School, Jeremy is also a superb athlete with good speed and strenght. He tackles hard and is a very physical player. 1st team All-Conference, All-Sectional and team MVP, he will play as an outside back and/or midfield.
- Kyle Gottschlich: An All-Conference player from Germantown High School, Kyle is a strong and versatile player. He reads the field really well, can distribute effectively and finish. He will join his junior brother B.J.
- Jared Kuehl: At 6-3, Jared will be a very strong physical presence in our box. He comes from Oregon High School where he earned 1st Team All-Conference and All-State goalkeeper honors. Jared also played 2 years at MATC where he was an All-State and All-Region athlete.
