A successful penalty kick 1:34 into the game was all the scoring needed in NCAA II Upper Iowa's 1-0 victory over UW-Platteville Wednesday in Fayette, Iowa.

Craig Signorin collided with Pioneer keeper Kris Bosshart, which the referee ruled to be an excessive tackle. Signorin was awarded the penalty shot, which he converted for his 11th goal of the season.

The Pioneers had 12 shots to tie the game, including five on goal, but were stopped by Peacock keeper Andy Youde. The Pioneers also played short-handed for the final 64 minutes of the game after a red card.

UWP had its four-game win streak stopped and fell to 13-3-1 overall. The Peacocks won their school-record eighth game, improving to 8-7-1.

The Pioneers, ranked fifth in the NCAA Central Region, close the regular season with an important game at UW-Oshkosh Sunday as they chase the first NCAA III playoff berth in school history. The Titans, a playoff team a year ago, are ranked 10th in the region.
