B.J. Gottschlich scored on a penalty kick with 4:24 remaining, lifting UW-Platteville to its eighth straight win, 1-0 over Luther Thursday in Pioneer Stadium.
The Pioneers out-shot the Norse 20-2 but were stone-walled by spectacular stops by Luther goalkeeper Dickson Kwatampora, who made nine saves. Kwatampora's aggressive play, however, led to a penalty as he ran over a Pioneer in the box with under five minutes to play.
Gottschlich, who had hit the crossbar in the 82nd minute with a sizzler from 35 yards out, converted the PK with a hard, low kick past the sprawling Kwatampora.
The Pioneers, ranked sixth in the NCAA III Central Region, improved to 8-1-1 overall, while the Norse dropped to 3-5-1.
UWP plays at the region's eighth-ranked team Wednesday, facing Elmhurst at 4 p.m. A Pioneer win would tie the 1983 school record for consecutive victories.
