Posted September 11, 2008

Blake Beetham and Ben Terpening scored two late goals within six minutes of each other, leading UW-Platteville to a 2-0 win over Clarke Thursday at Pioneer Stadium.

Beetham came off the bench at the 75:18 mark and scored four minutes later, taking a centering pass from B.J. Gottschlich and shooting from eight yards in front of the net.

After a long run down the middle, a Clarke defender controlled the ball, turned back up field, but then was picked clean by Terpening. The UWP senior stole the ball from behind, turned and blasted a shot from 25 yards out that beat goalkeeper Phillip Flores at the 83:55 mark.

The Pioneers improved to 3-1-1 with their third straight victory, while Clarke fell to 3-2.

UWP out-shot its neighboring visitors 18-10 and had six shots on goal to the Crusaders' one.

The Pioneers are back at home Wednesday at approximately 6 p.m. in a huge match with rival UW-Whitewater. The game will start 30 minutes after the women's match concludes.
