UW-Platteville's Jessica Scott placed third in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference cross country championships Saturday, highlighting the Pioneers' day.

Scott, a senior from Kiel, not only repeated her placing with a time of 21.44, she also became the fourth Pioneer ever to earn the female Scholar-Athlete Award.

She helps the Pioneers place fifth on a gorgeous day for running at UW-Stevens Point. UW-Eau Claire successfully defended its team title with 42 points, followed by UW-Oshkosh with 62, UW-La Crosse 65, UW-Stevens Point 112 and UWP 159.

Alli Tank was 27th in the 6K race, finishing in 23:06. Ann Tank was 42nd in 23:43, Trista Baye 56th in 24:12, and Emma Dreis 57th in 24:13.

The men were seventh in the team race. The host Pointers edged UW-Oshkosh 52-55 for the title. UW-La Crosse had 62, followed by UW-Eau Claire 117, UW-Whitewater 127, UW-River Falls 172, UWP 174, UW-Stout 180, and UW-Superior 295.

Tony Kilburg led the Pioneers with a 25th-place finish in 25:40 over 8,000 meters, followed by Nathan Petesch, 30th in 25:50; Matt Hoefs, 43rd in 26:08, Josh Melby, 51st in 26:18; and Shane Lacy, 53rd in 26:20.

Alli Tank and Greg Alleman earned the second-ever WIAC Sportsmanship Awards, given to outstanding leaders on each conference team.

The Pioneers return to action Nov. 15 at the NCAA III Regional Championships, hosted by Augustana College.
