Josh Olson was the Pioneers top finisher

With five runners in the top 10, the host Pioneers won the men's race at the five-school UW-Platteville Open Saturday morning at Veterans' Park.

The deep Pioneers, despite not running many of their top runners, scored 29 points to out-distance Coe, who had 55. Viterbo scored 92, followed by Knox with 96 and Dubuque with 97.

Viterbo won the women's race with 39, followed by Knox with 55, Coe with 61, UWP with 84, and Dubuque with 101.

Freshman Josh Olson was the Pioneers' top finisher, grabbing second place in the team race at 29:04 over 8,000 meters. Viterbo's B.J. McCall won the race in 28:30, while former Pioneer Aaron Whalen was second in 28:38 running unattached.

Stephanie Dorton led the women

Sophomores Curtis Bendorf (29:24) and Nate Silver (29:38) were fourth and fifth, while freshman Bill Clirt (29:45) and Anthony Swimm (29:49) were eighth and 10th for the Pioneers.

Freshman Stephanie Dorton paced the women with an eighth-place finish, covering the 6K run in 27:29. Senior Nikki Schoenbeck was 11th in 27:50, followed by Jami Burlison, 19th in 29:56; Steph Lenser, 22nd in 30:20; and Katie Binning, 24th in 30:45.

Running unattached, Bea Foley won the women's race in 25:28, while Coe's Stephanie Dolezal was the top team finisher, taking second overall at 26:09.

The full Pioneer teams will be back in action next Saturday at the Griak Invitational at the University of Minnesota.
