Despite an illness that has stricken much of the UW-Platteville traveling party in Ireland, both the men's and women's basketball teams posted victories Saturday night.
From John Krogman: "Megan Guernsey scored 6 points in a Pioneer 8-0 run midway through the fourth quarter to help the Pioneers slip by the St. Mary's Women's Basketball Club, 53-49, in Killarney, Ireland. Angie Vamstad's 16 points and Charity Stotmeister's 10 points kept the Pioneers in the game as the lead changed hands several times in a sluggish contest until the Pioneers final run.
In the nightcap, the Pioneer men raced past Team Garvey 92-52. The Pioneers, led by Jeff Skemp's 13 points, blew the game open with a 29-point second quarter resulting in a 52-17 halftime lead. Conner Finley added 12 points and Allen Ballweg 10, as 13 Pioneer men scored in a game that saw the Irish team playing out of season to accommodate the Platteville Ireland trip."
