Strong-armed Joe Lange threw a complete-game shutout, and Steve Bomkamp homered, leading UW-Platteville to a 5-0 win over UW-Oshkosh Sunday. The Pioneers took three of four weekend games from the formerly first-place Titans, who won Sunday's opener 5-4.

Lange, who threw a complete-game Wednesday and 2.2 innings Saturday, tossed a six-hitter at the Titans Sunday. He struck out a season-high 12 batters and allowed just three singles after the third inning. Lange, with 230 career strikeouts, moved into seventh place all-time in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference history.

Bomkamp had a a run-scoring single in the first inning and a two-run home run in the fifth, supplying all the offense needed in the game. The Pioneers had 12 hits, with Bomkamp and Kevin Osmanski each having three.

The Pioneers are in fifth place in the WIAC with an 8-8 conference mark. They are 16-14 overall. The Titans (15-11) are tied for second with UW-Stevens Point at 7-5.

In the opener, the Pioneers rally from a 5-0 deficit fell just one run short. Mickey Fadness and Blake Berger each hit two-run home runs early on, before Pioneer pitcher Justin Crotty shut down the Titans. Crotty pitched eight innings, giving up six hits and just two earned runs.

In the fourth inning, Coach Eric Frese's club put together three runs on four hits, including Osmanski's run-scoring double. The Pioneers added another in the fifth when Brett Benesh scored on the back-end of a double-steal attempt. The Pioneers had only one more hit after that, however, a seventh-inning bunt single by Derrick Rice. Kyle Kannenburg went the distance on the mound for the Titans.

UWP travels to first-place UW-Whitewater (18-9, 10-6) Wednesday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
