UW-Stout's Jerrel Enerson-Matthews singled with the bases-loaded in the 11th inning, leading the host Blue Devils to a 9-8 victory over UW-Platteville and a sweep of a doubleheader. Stout won the opening-game 13-5 Monday at Nelson Field in Menomonie.
Enerson-Matthews hit a two-out single to right-center, scoring Ryan Stace with the winning run and capping a big comeback.
UW-Platteville led 7-0 in the top of the first and 8-0 into the second. Brenden Watson and Jason Jacobson had RBI singles, and Steve Bomkamp, Steve Nelson, and Alex Siehoff drew bases-loaded walks in the first.
Brandon O'Connell had a three-run double in Stout's five-run third, and the Blue Devils eventually tied the score with single runs in the fourth and fifth. Neither team scored again until the 11th, when the hosts finally broke through.
UW-Stout improved to 12-6 overall and 3-3 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while the Pioneers slipped to 7-9, 2-4.
In the opener, the Pioneers had 11 hits, but stranded 16 runners. Watson smacked four hits, including two doubles to lead the Pioneers.
