PLATTEVILLE-The Center for the Arts Performing Art Series University of Wisconsin-Platteville presents 'A Chanticleer Christmas' November 27 at 7:30pm.

Chanticleer-based in San Francisco--has developed a remarkable reputation for its vivid interpretations of vocal literature, from Renaissance to jazz, and from gospel to venturesome new music. With its seamless blend of twelve male voices, ranging from countertenor to bass, the ensemble has earned international renown as "an orchestra of voices." Called "the world's reining male chorus," by the New Yorker magazine, Chanticleer will perform more than 100 concerts in 2007-08, the GRAMMY Award-winning ensemble's 30th Season.

Named for the "clear-singing" rooster in Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, Chanticleer was founded in 1978 by tenor Louis Botto, who sang with the group until 1989 and served as Artistic Director until his death in 1997.

"I couldn't be happier to have Chanticleer coming back to the CFA as it's been been almost eight years since their last appearance," according to John Hassig, Director of Performing & Visual Arts, Programs & Facilities at UW-Platteville. "It will be an excellent way to start the Holiday season."

This performance marks the first ever appearance by the group in Wisconsin for its Holiday tour and the only performance by Chanticleer in the state this year.

Chanticleer will perform a night of Christmas music classic and new, sacred and secular giving the audience a taste of their new Christmas CD, Let It Snow. Let It Snow features the ensemble with the Chanticleer Holiday Orchestra performing such favorites as "Feliz Navidad" and "The Christmas Song."

Tickets for this event are $28 for General Admission $26 for Faculty and Senior Citizens $20 for Kids Under 18 and $16 for UWP Students (with current ID).

A special pre-show talk with members of the ensemble is planned for 6:30pm in the CFA.

Major support for this performance of Chanticleer was provided by the Bert Glanz Fund for Classical Performing Arts in the UWP Foundation. The Performing Arts Series is made possible in part by support from the Segregated University Fee Allocation Committee and the Wisconsin Arts Board.
