Getting Started . . . New Student Registration--Pioneer Passage

Welcome new freshman student! We are delighted that you have decided to attend UW-Platteville! With this important decision behind you, we know that you are ready to take the next step in becoming a UWP student.

You will begin your college journey by attending New Student Registration--Pioneer Passage, a one-day program held during the summer where you will meet fellow students, learn about the things that make UWP special, and register for the classes you will take in the fall semester. Your parents, family, or friends are invited to attend with you (for a small fee). This is the first day you will spend as a new UWP student, so get ready for New Student Registration--Pioneer Passage!

What is New Student Registration--Pioneer Passage?

It's a day for incoming new freshmen and their parents/guests to learn more about the transition to UWP and the fall class scheduling process, known as registration. All new freshmen are required to attend.

How do I sign up for New Student Registration--Pioneer Passage?

Submit your enrollment deposit and contract (if you have not done so already) to the UW-Platteville Admission Office, 1 University Plaza, Platteville, WI 53818.

Registration materials were mailed to admitted students in February. If you were admitted after that time, we will mail materials to you within a few weeks of your admission. If you do not receive registration materials, call us at 608-342-1033. Return the "Reservation to Register" card, along with the guest registration fees, as soon as possible.

The registration fees are $80 for students and $15 for guests. Students will be billed $80 for registration on their tuition bill. Guests must pay $15 to attend for the day. Please send in the guest fees with the "Reservation to Register" card. These mandatory fees cover the cost of summer and fall registration and orientation programs, materials, mailings, services, student staffing and food.

Registration dates are filled on a first come, first-served basis. Remember that students must take the UW System Placement Tests prior to coming to New Student Registration--Pioneer Passage.

When and where is New Student Registration--Pioneer Passage held?

Students check in on the ground floor lobby of Ullsvik Hall from 8:00 to 8:45 a.m. A continental breakfast will be available.

Placement Tests

All new students are required to take placement tests prior to registration for classes. Information about the UW-System Mathematics, English, and Foreign Language Placement Tests is mailed to all admitted new freshman students in February. Wisconsin residents are strongly encouraged to take the test at a UW-System college or university near home. Access information about the test at http://www.testing.wisc.edu/. (Out-of-state students only are permitted to take an online version of the test.)

If you miss the regional testing dates in March or April (or miss the online testing deadline for out-of-state students only), you must take the test on the UW-Platteville campus in June or July prior to New Student Registration--Pioneer Passage (or just prior to the beginning of the semester for late registrants). What is covered during New Student Registration--Pioneer Passage?

Presentations covering topics relevant to class scheduling and transitioning to college are made by UW-Platteville students and employees. New Student Registration--Pioneer Passage begins at 8:30 a.m. and continues to 4:00 p.m. The agenda for the day includes the following:

Where Can We Stay?

Will you be traveling a long distance and require a night of housing before your session? If so, you may elect to stay in the UWP Residence halls. Bed linens, towels, washcloths and pillows will be provided.

In addition to the Residence Halls there are several hotels and motels in Platteville that you can stay in. They are listed below.

Staying In The Residence Halls

You may check into the residence halls anytime between 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM on the day prior to your registration date. The cost is $16.00 per person for a double occupancy room. Students will be placed with other students; family members will be placed together as space allows. Please complete the housing portion on your Reservation to Register card and include your housing payment when you return your card.

What do I need to do before I can attend New Student Registration--Pioneer Passage?

Before registering for classes, all new students are required to take the UW System Mathematics and English Placement Test. Information on taking the test at a location near you (regionally) was mailed in February. The test dates for various locations across Wisconsin are March 8, 15, 29 and April 5, 12, 19, 20, 26. You are strongly encouraged to complete your placement testing on one of these dates. Registration fills quickly, so register for the regional test as soon as possible. Is Overnight Lodging Available?

Overnight lodging is available for students and guests in a UWP residence hall. The cost is $16 per person for a double room. Students will be placed with other students; family members will be placed together as space allows. Items provided by the residence hall include: bed linens, pillows, towels, and washcloths. Check-in at the residence hall is anytime between 5:00 and 8:00 p.m. on the day prior to New Student Registration--Pioneer Passage.
