Abundant Resources Make Learning Easy

I love attending the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. When I first began my college career, it was difficult to understand everything. English was not my first language and at first it was difficult to pick up. I was confused about where things were located on campus and the resources available to me. Fortunately, the professors were excellent and really cared about my academic education. They are always willing to review assignments and homework when necessary. Professors continually provide help during office hours and are even willing to make special appointments to meet one-on-one with students. I appreciate their dedication to help all students succeed. I feel confident and successful at UWP.

Speaking Out About Diversity

I really enjoy working with the Hmong and Asia Clubs. My involvement has given me an opportunity to express the importance and historical significance of different cultures to other students and staff on campus. It is important to educate my peers about ethnic differences so they can have a better understanding of diversity in our community and throughout the world. I understand what it is like to be a Hmong individual coming into a new area. I hope to continually promote positive relations among all people.

Advisors Help Teach Life Skills

Some of the most beneficial experiences I have had at UWP involve working with Pusaporn Tabrizi, Hmong Club advisor, in the Multicultural Educational Resource Center. I really enjoy working with her by preparing presentations sponsored by the Hmong Club. This year the Hmong Club sponsored the “Hmong Educational Fair.” I presented information on the present day conditions for Hmong people living in Laos. Through these experiences, I have been able to further develop my public speaking skills. Pusaporn encourages students to reach their full potential by being actively involved at UWP and in the Platteville community.
