A Smooth Transfer

I had been on campus before because of FFA activities, music contests in high school and visiting my four older sisters when they attended UWP. My mom also graduated from UWP, so there is a family tradition. But I started off getting an associate degree at another college. When Bernie Harris, marketing professor, came to the college and brought another UWP transfer student with him that had an impact on my decision to transfer. I knew the transition would be smooth, and it was.

I like the fact that I don’t have to walk miles to get to classes like I would if I was attending a bigger college. It is also close to home, so it is easy to go home and spend time with family. You are not a number; the professors care about you and are always willing to help you.

Don’t Double Book!

Manage your time wisely. Become involved in clubs/organizations so you can network with people and learn more about your field of study. If you need help in a class most of the time your classmates can be a great help to you. Use a planner to organize your classes, activities and jobs so you will be on time, not double book yourself, and be able to plan ahead.

An Evolving Internship/Job

My first internship was in spring semester 2005 with the Recruitment and Prospective Student Services on campus. I learned how to become a tour guide. I also was involved with various brochures that the upcoming freshman received over last summer's Pioneer Passage. I also developed the design for the shirts that were handed out at registration and currently for prospective student visits. Another job that I performed was working on the databases for the recruiter’s receptions that were held over the spring. Ruth Joyce, the UWP Recruitment Manager, gave me this opportunity.

I currently work for 4CS, a warranty software company, headquartered in East Moline IL (Quad Cities), as a sales assistant. I did my internship with them last summer, and will be moving down to the headquarters this summer, to work in the marketing department.

Tour Conductor Makes the Dean’s List

Being named to the Dean’s List is always a memorable moment. Also, I enjoy conducting tours on campus for prospective students and their families. I get a great feeling of satisfaction hearing these students tell me that they have chosen UWP.
