I will have great opportunities here with international programs or studying abroad. This college has professors that have many connections around the world. I am very excited for the opportunity that I will be experiencing this spring when I will be going on a China Study Tour from March 11-24. It will be a great experience learning and engaging with another culture.
It is not completely difficult to be on your own. You are in an environment filled with people in the same situation. They can help you in so many ways. You gain friendships so fast that it is amazing. When it comes to social skills, I am somewhat of a bashful person. It takes time for me to warm up. College in that sense is great because there isn't truly an "admired" group. There is so much diversity when it comes to personalities!
The groups that I am involved with are warm. I was really attracted to how they represented themselves. I showed them a little interest and they really tried to recruit me even more. I am involved in the university's Black Student Union this year. It is great that you can really help an organization be recognized. They have an annual Ebony Weekend filled with amazing entertainment by profound writers and comedians. It is a vital learning experience that all should take part in. In addition, there is the formal Ebony Ball that Saturday that gives you an excuse to be fancy.
A great memory from this year was the Yell contest for Homecoming 2005. As a freshman on the volleyball team, I never thought I could witness so much support from fans in one place. I couldn't even hear myself talk because it was so loud. I remember warming up for the volleyball game and being so ecstatic. It was great. There was so much energy that filled the gym! With that mind it was great that our volleyball team won our first Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament championship since 1992 and automatically qualified for the NCAA Division III national playoffs. It was a great memory with the program and the girls.
