UWP offers so many different opportunities for students to get involved in extra curricular activities during their collegiate years. I have been actively involved in intramurals and have played sports nearly year round, including softball, basketball and football. The team atmosphere allows students to meet a wide variety of people from a number of different backgrounds. Intramurals have helped me to stay active, but do not require the time commitment that collegiate athletics demand. I really enjoy the competitive, yet relaxed environment that intramurals provide. Whether it is shooting hoops with friends or attending a UWP Pioneer football game, sporting events allow me to take a break from academics and have fun.
I am been very fortunate to have the opportunity to work for the UWP Office of Publications as a graphic design artist. In my search for an on-campus job, I realized that working for the university publications office would help me to gain valuable career experience while enhancing my affinity for looking at advertisement in an artistic way. Through my work experience, I have worked closely with UWP faculty, staff and students to create a wide variety of print work for campus activities. My experience has allowed me to create connections in the graphic design industry that will surely benefit future job opportunities. Not only do I have a better understanding of graphic design as a professional occupation but I am also able to practice and perfect the skills that are taught in my classes.
I started college as an engineering major and later changed my major to communications. Fortunately, UWP offers excellent programs in both areas of study and the faculty members were very helpful to ensure that I was on a career path that was right for me. I have had the opportunity to be actively involved in my major while participating in campus and community events. College has been a very important part of my life where I have been able to grow and develop as an individual. My UWP education has allowed me to pursue my dreams.
