Homecoming is an exciting time at UWP. The campus, community and alumni all show their UWP spirit by getting involved with the weekly activities, football game and Homecoming parade. I was on Homecoming court this year and it was a great experience. The court members had to attend the Homecoming events throughout the week and it was a pleasure getting to know the other court members-we all got along very well and had a lot of fun together. After my court experience, I realized the importance of having a Homecoming-it brings the campus, community and alumni together in a sea of orange and blue to share in their Pioneer Pride.
This was my fourth year as an accounting supervisor for the Christmas telethon. The efforts of the telethon benefit Wisconsin Badger Camp, a local non-profit camp that serves individuals with developmental disabilities. As an accounting supervisor, I gain experience for my accounting major and help a great organization like Wisconsin Badger Camp along the way. My job during and before the telethon is to recieve and record all donations and purchases. The most difficult part is staying organized but it is well worth the hard work-the organization is always so grateful.
The two organizations I am most involved in at UWP are Collegiate FFA and Beta Alpha. I joined Collegiate FFA because my passion for the agriculture industry and past FFA experience in high school. Collegiate FFa members get involved with the community by volunteering at events such as Grant County Family Night and high school chapter competitions. Collegiate FFA members have a strong goal to develop leadership, citizenship and cooperation that is so important. Beta Alpha is an accounting organization. The members volunteer and attend several professional accounting events each semester. As president of Beta Alpha, I make sure everything stays organized; it's a full-time job but very fun and fulfilling. In addition to volunteering with Big Buddy and the Christmas telethon, the members of Beta Alpha serve as volunteer income tax assistants. This is a great hands-on experience for the accounting majors and we are making a difference as well as learning.
I understand fully the benefits of getting involved on campus and obtaining a higher education. UWP is a great place to accomplish those two things. Next semester, I have the privilege to grow even further in my education by studying abroad in Seville, Spain. During my time here I have had the opportunity to meet a lot of amazing people through classes and organizations and because of these reasons, I would never give up my experience here at UWP.
