UWP was the school where I felt the most comfortable. It was an excellent choice for an easy transition from high school to college. Also, I was able to get involved and be active on campus, for example, in Rangerettes. Larger schools could not have offered such hands-on opportunites.
As an art major I have be able to get involved with several labs. The strongest art program that I have found in Platteville is in ceramics. Professor Bruce Howdle has put in a lot of extra effort to get the building several new wheels and kilns. Also, the strength of UWP education programs is well known in Wisconsin. I have reaped the benefits of this program and feel all our education programs have been resourceful. I also enjoy how easy it is to get help from professors. The low student – teacher ratio is an excellent benefit of going to Platteville.
The biggest thing I’ve learned is how I manage my time. I have found that the more I am involved with, the more I get done. I have come to rely on my friends as a new form of “family.” I have learned to value others’ differences and respect what others have to say … You never know who will be hiring you!
Being captain of the dance team has enabled me to show my team spirit. I have attended every home football and basketball game. The team has also introduced me to several of my closest friends. I really enjoy still having that “team” atmosphere that I had in high school. Because of this, I have taught several camps and classes to younger girls. I have also gotten involved with tutoring and observing classrooms in the area, which will help to build a good resume for my future in education.
